Post-Op: an Endo Update
A follow-up to my essay "Fertility. Periods. Transness."
Hello friends! Long time, no read.
Some of you may remember that I posted an essay a while back about getting surgery for my PCOS/endometriosis. Well, it’s happened. I’ve been surgerized.
Listen, I am not a “health freak” and I actively avoid most conversations about my body’s inner-workings, but some of you have said it has been helpful to hear someone talk about their PCOS/endo journey so here I go. If you are not interested in this type of stuff, dip out now and I’ll write something fun soon. I promise. Here is a nice photo of me soothe you on your way out:
Au revoir!
Alright, they’re gone. It’s just you and me now, endo freaks.
The surgery was the 21st of November. I spent the two weeks leading up to it in a weird funk. The dread I felt was not the surgery itself but the idea of havingHAVING!having! to lean on people. There are many privileges in being an able-bodied adult, but one of the biggest is the illusion of self-reliance.
I prepped my best buddy, Gage, and my partner for the post-op help I might need. Then I crossed my fingers (in vain) that the surgery would not be too intense and that I would bounce back immediately because I am oh-so-tough and strong and resilient.
Twas not the case.
